International singing star, Charice Pempengco, is set to sing the Philippine National Anthem on May 7, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA at the Pacquiao-Mosley fight. The 18 year old “pinay” was personally hand-picked by Manny Pacquiao. The negotiations happened in Los Angeles, California and Manny is very excited to see Charice perform in the much anticipated Pacquiao vs Mosley fight.
Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco, born May 10, 1992, popularly known by the mononym Charice, is a Filipino recording artist and actress who rose to popularity through YouTube. Dubbed by Oprah Winfrey as the Most Talented Girl in the World, she released her first international studio album, Charice in 2010. The album entered the Billboard 200 at number-eight making Charice the first and only Asian singer in history to land in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart. In late 2010, she released an extended play, titled Grown-Up Christmas List.
She released the single, “Pyramid”, which featured rapper, Iyaz. It became her most successful single to-date, charting within the top-40 in a number of countries, and debuting on The Oprah Winfrey Show where she sang live vocals. Crossing over to acting on television, she joined the cast of TV series Glee as Sunshine Corazon. She release a new lead single from her upcoming international sophomore studio album, “Before It Explodes”, a song written by Bruno Mars. And according to Billboard,”Louder” will be Charice’s second single from her sophomore album, scheduled for a May release.
Charice first expressed her desire to sing the Philippine National Anthem in 2009, prior to Manny Pacquiao’s fight versus Ricky Hatton.
Now, the petite Filipina is already excited to sing before the millions of boxing fans and enthusiasts from all over the world who will be watching the Mosley vs Pacquiao fight on pay-per-view and the 17,000 fans inside the MGM Grand. She said that Team Pacquiao feels honored that she agreed to sing in the Pacquiao and Mosley match and she too feels the same way as well.
